KWA led a year-long consultation to deliver a sensitive relocation scheme for Cambridge City Football Club (CCFC) to Sawston, South Cambridgeshire.

The 12.3ha site, formerly an inert waste tip, lies within the Green Belt, outside the settlement boundary, and includes TPO-protected ancient woodland. The scheme balances sporting and community use, transforming a disused site into a vibrant facility.

The CCFC development features a floodlit grass pitch, main stadium with covered stands and ticket office (3,000 spectator capacity), and a full-sized floodlit 3G pitch with associated stand, parking, security, and cycle storage.

The community element provides 3.4ha of land gifted to Sawston Parish Council for sports and recreation, with floodlighting, shared access, dedicated parking, and access to CCFC changing and washroom facilities.

KWA’s extensive experience in rural and Green Belt developments ensured the successful delivery of sporting and recreational facilities, carefully balancing design, planning, and environmental considerations to achieve a high-quality, sustainable outcome that benefits both the client and the local community.
